Oracle Enterprise Linux Tips

OEL comes with some great security features as default. However when your developing these can get in the way.

So here are a few tips to dropping OEL guard when it comes to security.


Disabling SELinux
While a very important security mechanism it’s a little overkill in some instances and can also be a pain to setup.
If you dont need it just edit /etc/selinux/config and change the line to be
SELINUX=disabled

Linux disable iptables
OEL comes with a nice secure firewall but sometimes it can get in the way when developing. The following documents how to turn off iptables.

Stop the ipchains service.
service ipchains stop

Stop the iptables service.
service iptables stop

Stop the ipchains service from starting when you restart the server.
chkconfig ipchains off

Stop the iptables service from starting when you restart the server.
chkconfig iptables off
